"We interviewed 17 contractors in total and ended up choosing Sharp Builders who we found in neighbor2neighbor. Tal was not the cheapest—he was in the middle of the pack. We took tours of houses he had remodeled and we liked the quality he offers for the price. A couple of contractors said they would dedicate themselves to our house, but I wanted someone who had other projects going so he could leverage our place with the other projects. I didn’t want to pay someone to be his only client for six months. The remodel of our 1952 home was a huge job. We didn’t change the footprint of the house, but we gutted it. The roof and the furnace were the only things we didn’t touch. We hired my sister as the architect and got a local architect to do the final drawings and get the permits. Tal had no problem working with the drawings and in some cases he improved upon them by creating elements such as additional skylights, alterations and additions to the kitchen and bath cabinets and an outdoor deck with a BBQ island. Tal was very patient during the whole process. If there was ever a problem, in the drawings or otherwise, he just fixed it. He saved us from having to replace the roof. We removed a fireplace which created a hole in the roof, but they don’t make that kind of shingles anymore, so Tal took the extra shingles from the skylights and reused them on the chimney hole! I like that Tal’s company has a nice family feel. He uses his brother, an electrician, and his workers stayed on the whole project. He does have some subs, but Tal’s guys were always there to carry the project through. Tal only went over budget 10% and over the time frame 10%, which I think was good considering all that we ran into and for such a major remodel. We knew we would be putting in a load bearing wall, for example, but we had no way of knowing before we started that there was no concrete footing. I have already recommended Tal to a friend whose house Tal is remodeling now."
